Benchmark 4: T-shirt Design and Production
It’s finally time to put your Message to the World on your t-shirts!
For this benchmark you should revisit and make specific use of the key findings from your Marketing Strategy building block. Be sure to incorporate your logo and your complete message into your design.
Design Process:
Your artwork should be done with black ink on sturdy white paper. You can begin with a light pencil and finish with India ink and a brush. A pencil drawn, full scale draft is required to be signed off before moving to the final draft (this can be turned into your final draft). Your design can be applied to either the front or the back of your shirts, but not both.
Strive for an effective integration of text and graphics. This will require a clever use of well chosen symbolic imagery. Text and graphics should complement one another in the effort to both convey your ideas and command the attention of viewers. Remember that you are limited to one color of screening ink. Consult the design criteria below for sign off guidelines. Follow the process outlined.

Steps
Your design must fit within a 8.5 X 11 inch screening area.
1. Start rough. Get feedback early. Don't get too detailed at this point.
2. Adjust, refine. Get more feedback. Refine further. Repeat until you have your sign-offs.
3. Create final draft. *
4. Send out for film positive (1-2 days).
5. Book studio for stages 1 and 2 of the production process (steps 3-4 will be booked later)

Production Process:
While it is necessary for you to have some understanding of silk screening, we recognize that much of your learning will occur while you are engaged in the screening process. An IT teacher will guide you through each stage. Studio time will be broken into four stages, as outlined below:
Stage 1. Emulsion (drying time of several hours)
Stage 2. Exposure and rinse (drying time of several hours)
Stage 3. Screening! And reclaiming the screen. And clean-up.
Stage 4. Ink setting
