Blog Prompt 4
Thinking of a Thesis*
This is a two-part blog. First you will review and blog about a groupmate’s work. Then that groupmate will post a thoughtful comment to your blog.
* thesis: the main argument or point made by the creator of the cards/outline (condensed into one or two sentences)
1.) Review a group member’s outline and blog a response:
Pick a groupmate who has at least 30 notecards signed-off for one GQ. Make sure this groupmate has already plugged his or her research findings into your group’s outline (this should include all data from signed-off cards). Read your groupmate’s GQ and the outlined findings. Now consider the following questions and answer each in your blog:
- What have you learned that answers the GQ? (summarizing is required here)
- What is still not clear to you after reading the outline?
- Is a thesis* starting to form? (use information from the outline to draw a conclusion)
- If there is no thesis, what do you think is missing? What is needed to create a thesis?
In your response you should include the groupmate’s name and the full text of the GQ.
2.) Group members comments on your blog:
Once you have published your blog let your group member know so he or she can read your review. In a comment to the blog, that group member will address your response in a professional, receptive manner (meaning, he or she will resist the temptation to simply be defensive of your criticism; instead your group member will attempt to learn from this new perspective.)
