Pre-Narrative Building Block (BB)
Who makes me matter?
What do I do that matters?
What is “family”?
1) Answer the following questions in either handwritten or electronic format:
- Who makes me feel like I matter, and how does he or she do so?
- What do I do in my community or home life that makes me matter to others?
- How do I define, and who is, my “family”?
- Each question may be answered separately or combined in a larger written piece, as long as all questions are addressed.
2) In groups of 2-3, exchange and read another classmate’s narrative. You will need to:
- Write “Peer reviewed by ________” putting your First AND Last name as the reviewer. Make sure this is bold and easy to locate.
- As you read, highlight or underline, with a colored pencil or pen, phrases and/or sentences that you find interesting - make comments in the margins (or with the comment function in google docs), or on another sheet of paper, explaining why you selected each phrase and/or sentence.
- Write questions at the end of the narrative, or on another sheet of paper, that come to your mind after reading through the piece. Questions should be able to be answered by more than a “yes” or “no”. What would you like to know more about?
3) Read the comments and questions posed to you by the classmate who looked at your work. Write a reflection addressing what he or she wrote, answering questions and considering the comments that were made. Also, reflect on the process of the BB - How was the writing process? Reading a classmate’s work? Having another classmate read your work?
4) Turn in your pre-narrative and reflection with appropriate peer reviewing, as described in step 2, handwritten or electronically to Miss D. on or before the due date. You will be signed off for 2 parts, your own narrative and reflection, as well as for peer-reviewing another classmate’s work.
